After more than a year’s worth of work on revising MU’s smoking policy, Vice Chancellor Jacquelyn Jones has still not made a final decision. Jones has however reported to MU Faculty Council member Michael Devaney that some proposed alterations to the policy have been ruled out. A final decision is not expected to made before the end of the year.
At a Nov. 16 Faculty Council meeting Devaney told the council that Jones plans to create a new smoking policy that serves as a compromise between a complete campus ban and the current policy, which still allows smoking in specified areas of university buildings. Devaney also reported that Jones will focus on the entrances of buildings when developing the new policy.
