With MU’s football team rising in national rankings — from 17th to 11th in The Associated Press rankings compiled over the weekend — it’s likely to continue to be a season of sellouts for both MU athletics and local apparel shops.
Saturday’s blowout win against Nebraska was a “Gold Rush” event, and fans were encouraged to wear gold to the game. With a sell-out crowd filling Faurot Field, thousands of gold colored T-shirts flew off of store shelves prior to the game.
Monday morning, the downtown shop Tiger Spirit, the University Bookstore, the Tiger Team Store, and even some local grocery shops were all greeted with bare shelves, particularly where gold colored T-shirts used to be.
When asked if her store will continue to prepare for more Mizzou success, both on field and in stores, Michelle Dillard, owner of Tiger Spirit, said, “Yes, I think they’re on a roll.”
