Originally developed in France in the late 1980s by a man named David Belle, parkour — also known as free running – is slowly gaining popularity around the world. It is as much an art form as it is a sport, requiring strength, speed, and agility. Participants, referred to as traceurs (males) and traceuses (females), jump, roll, climb and crawl as they navigate an urban setting. Parkour requires intense focus, and in that regard can be compared to the martial arts.
