Gov. Jay Nixon announced on Monday that he has appointed Don M. Downing to the UM System Board of Curators.
Downing, a lawyer from Webster Groves, will still have to wait for confirmation from the Missouri Senate.

The UM Board of Curators approved a plan Friday morning that would make participating employees pay into their retirement funds and gave UM System President Gary Forsee the authority to implement furloughs if necessary.
Both of these actions were approved unanimously.

UM System President Gary Forsee released a memo this morning to faculty and staff recommending changes to the benefits plan for full-time employees, and asking that 2010 salaries be kept at 2009 levels.
Forsee recommended an employee contribution plan be instituted “to preserve a critical benefit for our employees,” among other recommendations.
