After weeks of turbulent economic activity, UM System President Gary Forsee has ordered a systemwide hiring freeze, effective immediately.
The freeze, which he announced today in a memo to faculty and staff, will apply to open positions and searches currently under way and will affect administrative, staff and faculty positions.
The move is expected to provide the system with optimal flexibility with resources in dealing with concerns such as maintaining competitive faculty and staff salaries and handling potential increased enrollment.
