There’s rumors spreading throughout the Internet that Facebook.com, the popular social networking site, it looking to charge users $4 per month. The truth of this rumor is unknown, but a Facebook group is already protesting these unsubstantiated rumors.
In an interview with 60 Minutes in January, Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg did say his company wasn’t making enough money. Although that could be a reason to charge a fee, these rumors have not yet been confirmed.
But, what do you think?
You need another option. ‘I rarely even use it now its free’.
i have to say i dont blame facebook for wanting to charge after all a business exists to turn a profit and not to provide a free service. I think it would be healthy for facebook to charge a fee shedding hords of users. i think people are becoming too dependent on social networking as their only form of human interaction. suddengly out of nowhere facebook has evolved into a birth right. but if that were to happen a younger fresher startup social network would take its place and then soon learn shortly after that you can’t run such a overhead by selling small 1/4 page ad banners on the right hand side of the page. if people really wanted to keep their facebook they would purchase products from time to time that are advertised in those ads as support and a token of appreciation to facebook. in turn facebook would be allowed to charge more for that ad space and the people would have plenty of t-shirts with dumb sayings on them. the ads within facebook are so discrete and almost invisible. if they were smart they would be doing opo ups or banner ads that run across the top of the window. we all need to make money, business aren’t any different.
Yeah Right….
Yeah, that’s like saying Microsoft will charge for MSN/Windows Live Messenger, and Google Inc. will charge for YouTube.
Same old trite-and-tired rumours, and same old BS since the days of “ICQ will be charging”. Please…
If they do, I will move on to something else which IS free. There are plenty of sites to choose from and plenty more lurking behind the wings waiting for an opportunity to take the place of Facebook. No worries.
Well, there’s always MySpace again.
I doubt this will happen, but if it does … the Facebook of 2008 is already a joke. Opening it to the public was an iffy move, but the Applications craze and the redesign …
If it does happen, I will not miss Facebook.
haha thats nuts it’s a trap and bate deal .. why make something to be for free and then try to charge people , money talks bull sh*t walks i guess it’s life i will diff go back to my space
If for some reason Facebook.com DID start charging, that would be the end of them.
lol.. facebook neeeds to loarn how to make a program before they sell it.. i would not pay for slow loading and a basic looking page like i have… least with myspace u can change ur own back ground.. lol.. facebook is a joke and who needs it anyhow other than a nerd with no life that needs to meet people over the net.. lame lame
I will certainly cancel my account if they begin charging. Who wants to give out their credit card numbers on the web so their identity can be stolen? THE VERY PRINCIPLE of them charging!!! They have their nerve! With the hard times that are here, how many will even be able to pay for it??? There is no EXCUSE EXCEPT GREED, Their low life lousy GREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are soooooooooooooo many other sites that DO NOT CHARGE! What are they thinking? Greedy bunch!!!!! STUPID!
I think it has a lousy layout anyway. So do many of my friends and church member friends.
The only reason I began using facebook is because of so many of my church members that have joined… that is the ONLY reason I began using it…we are all in agreement, if facebook begins charging, we will go to another site.
We just posted an article on this over on our blog – http://www.unionroom.com/blog/would-you-pay-to-use-facebook/
I personally think a paid service that appeals to heavy users is the way forward, leave the current service as a free service and think up some advanced functionality that big fans will happily pay for.
Classmates.com used to be free and Reunion.com used to be free. Netzero used to be free, too. So, it makes sense that, after garnering a large body of fans that Facebook would start charging. How much they charge and how much control a person has in his or her page would determine if I would stay. I like it, but I can certainly live without it.
Here’s one solution.. offer a “free account” and a “premium account”.. the free one is just like it is today, while the premium $4/mo would add lots of great new features and control. If the $4 was a choice, heck, I might even pay it.
It was a small comment. Facebook is now worth over 1.6 BILLION DOLLARS. I doubt they would charge. But I would pay anyway because there are are a lot of social networks, but not all of my friends and family will use the same one. So it would be inconvenient to have to log into 20 different websites to communicate with people.
i hope it starts charging
lol stop some of you idiots being so obsessed.
People might have to go back to actually talking on the phone or in person!!
Yeah, make the effort, meet your friends in person!! far better
It’s the old business application the banks used in western history. Give free accounts, store your money and charge you fees. Best options for a free client~ keep your freedom in place and move.
Check for security agreements and how much of your information you actually own.
Per e.g. facebook has absolute rights to your photos, and other information you have supplied.
Mark Zuckerberg, is not a generous person. There is a reason why he created this site, also try to see who gave him seed money or startup funds for this huge international project.
Try to see outside the bigger box.
Nothing is free from someone that went to Harvard!
He mastered the ability to make money at any cost.
History
haha.. facebook charging.. who cares.. another site will become the next go to spot.. if they charge then most folks will just move on to the next site.. lol
Fee me please; cessation of my addiction would be wonderful.
